Google with its upcoming Android P is making sure Android OEMs embrace the notch. We have seen a bunch of smartphones over the past few weeks sporting iPhone X-like notch cut out, and we can expect to see phones like the Huawei P20, OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi 7 to feature the forehead as well. Now, it looks like the Nokia 9 will also be added to the list as well, if a new report is true.
Nokia Power User reports based on a source in China that the upcoming Nokia 9 flagship will come with a notch. HMD Global, like many other Android OEMs, will be looking to add a notch on top of the display to maximise the display area.
The same source also confirms some past rumours that include Snapdragon 845 and an in-display fingerprint sensor for the Nokia 9. As for the notch, there is no word on whether it will be as big as the iPhone X or along the lines of the Zenfone 5 or the Essential Phone.
Were seeing a number of reports in recent weeks of upcoming smartphones expected to feature a notch that it is no longer surprising.
The first developer preview of Android P which was released last week comes with the ability to simulate a notch of various shapes and sizes to allow app developers to tune their apps accordingly.
The Nokia 9 along with the Nokia 8 Pro are expected to be HMD Global’s flagships for 2018. Both the handsets are expected to launch in the second half of the year and will come with full-screen displays. Both the smartphones are also expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset.
Whether or not HMD Global decides to add a notch for the Nokia 9 remains to be seen. The Nokia 9 is also expected to come with a penta-lens setup and an in-display fingerprint sensor – so far seen on the Vivo X20 Plus UD..
